why twice the scrolling speed?
i've compared a youtube video to the same song on frets on fire today because i'm new to fof and it seemed to me that it scrolls a lot faster than rock band.
and indeed, it looks like the notes are stretched by about a factor of 2:
i'm just wondering: why?
if you have a rock band theme, have everything set to rockband, speed factor 1.0 and everything - why would developers not make it look exactly the same?
sure, you have a higher viewing distance and view the fret board at a steeper angle but that's not exactly a thing that would make it easier. quite the opposite. i'm still looking for a way to make the viewing angle of the board the same.
of course i'll just set the speed factor to 0.5 and try to find an option to adjust the angle and hope it'll be fine but i'm still wondering what the logic is behind this as i'm sure people have thought about this.

Re: why twice the scrolling speed?
It has nothing to do with the developers, but rather the theme makers.
Also to adjust the neck angle/length, add neck_length = (some value here) and neck_width = (some value here) to the theme.ini. I'm using 6 and 3.5, respectively.

Re: why twice the scrolling speed?
looks too flat and wide IMO but that really basically seems to do the trick. will do a lot more playing around with these values. thanks!
once i get it looking exactly the same, i would love to share the settings but i'm wondering whether it's resolution dependent because in another thread i found a guy says that stuff gets stretched differently depending on the aspect ratio?
or is that just the case with neck_length and width and if i was to adjust the pov-values instead, it should work for everybody?

Re: why twice the scrolling speed?
It makes sense that it would differ depending on aspect ratio, as widescreen would stretch all the images horizontally.
But other than that, I don't know.

are you stupid?
It's the board speed in the settings, Ill get the exact location on where to change this in the menus in a sec
If It's at 100, drop it to 80-85 for the notes to be closer.
Re: why twice the scrolling speed?
erm, if you read my whole posting, i also asked about the angle, so susa's answer was helpful

well, two hours and many fraps recordings later, i gotta say: those poor theme makers!
here's my result - done by setting board speed to 60 and the following pov settings:
pov_target_x = 0.0
pov_target_y = 0.0
pov_target_z = 2.85
pov_origin_x = 0.0
pov_origin_y = 3.4
pov_origin_z = -2.85
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHkruRM0oes
comparing those charts also made me wonder whether fofix is for me. sure, there might be more accurate charts out there but always having to check how well exactly it is... and finding charts with drums at all... buying DLC might be horribly expensive but at least there are little such worries. or maybe i'll just stick with my real guitar since i really don't want to support those greedy bastards...
and here's why i think theme makers are poor:
i e.g. adjusted one pov-value and the fret board roted, as is to be expected. but that indicator bar (when to hit the notes) for some reason shifted, in addition to the rotation with the fret board. why that indicator bar isn't locked down and used as the origin for fret board rotation is a mystery to me. if the reason would be that you might want to be able to move that indicator bar around - so do a horizontal/vertical shift of it?
maybe there's something more complex behind the scenes i don't get but having two point of views where even the axes seem weird (compare Y and Z: http://code.google.com/p/fofix/issues/detail?id=583#c2) makes a simple rotation adjustment of the fret board very complex. maybe if one had a diagram of what the whole virtual scene setup looks like but these animated gifs right there at least didn't help me a lot...

This offended me.
In all my themes I get the POV as close as possible.
There is only so much we could do.
4.0 on the other hand...

Re: why twice the scrolling speed?
Try changing the board speed to Difficulty, because RB board speed is according to its difficulty, I'm sure this will solve one of your problems.

Re: why twice the scrolling speed?
Dang, I posted the exact values way back... Let me see if I can get them.
I believe its 6 and 3.5 with a speed of 90....hang on.

Well, it's not like he already tried that or anything...

Re: why twice the scrolling speed?
GOT IT:
neck_length = 6
This evens the neck width out. However, for a wider neck, use:
neck_width = 3.5
SCREEN:
Search exact rock band pov:
Page 2,
?????Exact RB2 POV?????
Make sure to change speed to 90.

Also, my speed is 170.

Re: why twice the scrolling speed?
I was the one who found it haha. If you set it to 90 the spacing is just about right on.
Re: why twice the scrolling speed?
Also, if you delete "TwoDNotes = False" the notes will look much better.

Yes, it looks better since its 3D, but its not as close as the real one.
