I'm confused. I've got the most recent version and I never had any previous version. What are these hopo things? What do they do? What's wrong with them? I'm confused :/.

HOPO is, you just hit the pick button at the start of a sequence, then, you can play the "filled" notes without strumming. It was kinda overused, used in inappropriate places and you have to have near-perfect timing or you'll just reset your multiplier/miss the whole solo sequence because of confusing when to strum and when not. The timing should have been more flexible. In the older versions, you had to strum on every note/chord you hit. It could be nice and would make solos easier to pull off if it was optimized a bit.

Well I THOUGHT I had the latest version. See, I downloaded JUST before the update was put up and then I looked and thought I had latest. Well I did get the latest and I absolutely hate it. I think it's horrible. But I overwrote my old files, and I really want to downgrade (not more than one version though). What was the previous version and where can I find it?

Anyways, that HOPO thing wasn't even explained in the tutorial and it felt a huge mess. It made a bunch of my songs dang near unplayable.

It won't let me edit my old post?? wth???

Anyways, I found 1.0.225. Is that the version right before most recent or is it really old?

As a WIP release the new version is great...
But as a playable new release... errm no

Too unstable.. random crashes etc
Audio problems
HOPO probs.. and they can't be disabled.. so this becomes a major problem

On the plus side, the graphics look great!
When its not crashing, the menu selection and overall gameplay is a lot smoother..

What I'd like to see is:

1 work on the HOPO and an option to disable this
2 an option to vary the frequency of the flashing lights... how often they flash... if you thought the 4x etc was annoying.. wait till you see this :p
3 Fix the random crashing that everyone has experienced
4 Fix the bug where jumping to a song by letter causes a crash (sometimes)
5 Fix the audio problems.. sound is not as clear, still get audio errors when trying to replay a song too

Definately download this and decide for yourself though.. if nothing else see the new direction FOF is heading - and check out the great new graphics etc... but make sure you keep your old version intact - you'll be needing it :)
My custom songs can now be found in the one place:-Homerrulz Song Thread

great new graphics? you mean the stage with cutout people spazzing with the ultra annoying lights? or do you mean the fake whammy look to the long notes?

more than one person has commented on these 'great' graphics. can someone explain it to me?

I thought I needed HO/PO's to do better in freebird, turns out, it's harder and my scores are worse. **** the new version.

Ok.. some people might find the flashing lights etc annoying.. I did at first too...

Try the following..

Make the room pitch black
Crank up the sound... and play the new version...

Do this for a bit, and then play the old version... any difference graphics wise?

They are an upgrade to the previous version. Not that they are on par with the likes of Halo or even Guitar 1 Hero for the PS2.

Seemd like when I tried the new version, the pick timing in general was touchy. Sometimes I had to pick just before the note hit the key. Other times not untill the note was totaly under the key. This maybe due to the HO/PO inclusion? Either way I see it as the major flaw of the new version. After all pick timing is the most basic element of the gameplay mechanics in FOF.

I see the nay sayers are gaining ground :( Hope a fix changes that soon.

An upgrade doesn't make them great graphics. I don't know if i would even consider it an improvement though......

I seriously hope that they spent more time on ho/po than they did with the stage background. Focus on the looks after you get the gameplay mechanics straight.

Goodbye everyone. It's been fun. I spent many many hours here on these boards and playing/contributing to FoF. Today I uninstalled my game and deleted all my files. I just don't have the time or interest anymore. I won't be coming back here anymore. I might show up in the IRC from time to time to chat. I regret nothing.

So long, farewell.
