FIRST TV SPOT FOR FOF!

Postby Qwedgeonline » Fri May 08, 2009 2:02 pm

Frets on Fire had it's first TV SPOT today! Channel One News (which is only shown in select schools) was doing their "NEXT BIG THING" and they were advertising a miniscule guitar controller that is USB compatible. They showed a demonstration using the original version of Frets On Fire (not fofix or alarian or raph)

Edit(BlackFate): Topic Cleaned. Please keep discussions appropriate to the original posts contents, and not stray on discussions of fretsonfire having gameplay elements similar to, or used previously on games such as Guitar Hero or Rockband.

Personally I think the fact that they try to sell some crap like that is hilarious. You pay $10 for a piece of crap you could have a cat step on and it would shatter. Pay $20 and you get a USB Xbox 360 Xplorer GH3 Guitar that is already compatible with FoF... Oh yeah, the second doesn't mak eyou hand cramp and die, plus its a lot more durable.

I'm just ticked that hey didn't use FoFiX! People at my school saw that and they're like, "Eww it's just a gay rip off of Guitar Hero", but I held my opinion to myself because I didn't want to look like a nerd telling people that it was an old version and it looks exact now. :tongue2:

I would have told them. Just think about it. Nerds rule the world. I would have brought in a newer version on a laptop and played it on a projector. i plan to do that if I get a laptop before the end of the school year

* @away_xbox straps 15 sticks of TNT to Amak11's body. The display reads [58] seconds.
<@away_xbox> Diffuse the timer by cutting the correct wire. There are 14 wires. They are Green White Peenus Indigo Black Gold Grey Brown Violet Turquoise Teal Magenta Mauve and Yellow.

<@away_xbox> ...snip....
<@away_xbox> Amak11 cut the Peenus wire. This has defused the timer on the TNT! Just try and get it off you without setting it off, ok?

Although any exposure of FOF is great news... This ISN'T the first time FOF has been on tv. The year FOF came out it was spotted during the Eurovision song contest. They did a little feature about some giant lan party and as the camera panned across you saw some dude holding his keyboard like the mascot and the game could be seen in the background.

There is a good reason why the version you saw on Tv was the standard version and not something like FOFix .... FOFix IS NOT an official version of the game. Neither is RFmod, you allways show the official version never modded versions coz thats not what the game looks like. It would be like advertising a car on TV and the one they show you has had a full body kit and superchargers attached, you then go to the car shop to buy one and you see this little puney car that looks nothing like what was advertised... In the case of this... If you go to the official website for FOF ( No we are not the official website ) you dont get offers of RFmod or FOFIX, you only get offered versions of the official game .
Also almost everything used in FOFix ( visually ) is copyrighted, and has been ripped off/ stolen to be used in FOF. showing a version of the game with illegal content on tv is like shooting yourself in the foot..

Was that little guitar the RIFF ROCKER by any chance? i saw that a few months ago advertised on some website that sold replacment parts for RB and GHWT drumkits ( new heads/cymbols, foot pedals and double foot pedals ) i cant believe its actually marketed as a guitar designed specifically for FOF. Id imagine its really hard to try and use, i once used my Microsoft media center remote as an FOF controller and that was really strange... the buttons look about the same size so id guess its just as awkward to use .

Original FoF is still cool, even with the mods out there. :P

That website has poor spelling and grammar. Some places it's unreadable.

It says that in the article, and I agree with the Modded versions usually have copyrighted material and isn't a good idea to show them.

Almost everything if you're using a non-custom theme. FOFiX was packaged with the Megalight themes which I aimed to be a light 100% custom theme which is good because it's able to avoid the copyrighted crap arguments that would be around, that's why we stopped packaging it with the GH and RB themes (also googlecode doesn't allow illegal copyrighted content on their project svns).

But agreed, until the developers recognize FOFiX as an official fork and put it on the sourceforge page, it will never get on TV unless someone really cares to look.

As for channelone I say good for them for looking into the opensource community, I don't care if they called it a knock-off, oh well, at least we got the recognition without having to bug them to up us on. I haven't see that station since I was in 7th grade, I'm surprised it's still around.

Reality check: It is a knock-off, and the GH and RB themes make FoFix even more of a knock-off. Somebody needs to bring some all original content to FoF.

There's nothing wrong with calling it a knock-off, since that's what it is.

I've tried playing guitar hero once on a cheapie guitar controller a friend of mine bought at a flea market. It sucked. The damn thing was so tiny I couldnt find the proper fret buttons to save my ass. Personally I'll stick with my PX2 Rock Band controller that has always served me well. Honestly I would have to say I would flip the keyboard upside down and try playing that way before I use this thing.
