How you use the guitars

Ok, well I've been using both the up and down pick for all of the notes on FoF, but when I see lots of people play, they just use their thumb and the down stroke pretty much the whole time. It seems easier on some parts that require more of a rhythm and you need to be able to count your strums more. I'm wondering what everyone else does. Do you use both the up and down for the whole song, or just the down strum using the thumb and the up AND down when there is a really fast part?

i only use down strum with my thumb and finger ( kinda like holding a plectrum) if i try upstrumming during fast parts im just too inacurate, so i personally find it better if i only down strum.

LONG LIVE THE NOOBS, THEY WILL OVER THROW US WITH THERE VASTLY SUPERIOR STUPIDITY.

I use my index and middle fingers for fast repetitions of a single note or chord, or a repetitive riff. Sometimes I use shift and enter, sometimes I bounce both fingers on only enter. Even though I use my thumb when playing ukulele, it's easier for me to use my thumb+index(like nobby76's "plectrum" technique). Gives it a more guitarish feel.
Edit: Oh, wait, I just realized this was about guitars. My bad.
I haven't played using a guitar very much, but I just down strum for the most part.

I only strum up with my index or middle finger.
Sometimes I'm almost doing the same finger patterns on both hands simultaneously, heh.
I only strum up and down at those really really fast but monotonous parts to hit as many notes as possible.

I guess you could call it a technique, but what I do is this:
For parts that need double strumming (DS), but not fast DS, you can push up with your index finger, and push down with your thumb, don't use your whole arm. Basically, you just rotate your wrist so your thumb comes up (strumming up with index) and then rotates back (strumming down with thumb) for DS.
Then you can use your whole arm to DS really fast parts. Works for me anyways.
