I use Cool Edit Pro 2, for quite some time now, to edit anything that's audio. It's an old program but, nevertheless, it's a cool one since you are able to edit single tracks and to mix several tracks (like mixing master tracks) as well. I recommend it. So.... Adobe Audition? And there's no point of learning how to perfect your upstroke to sound like your downstroke. It would be easier to just downstroke the song. Alternate picking is nice to know, but IMO the best way to play anything is using a variety of techniques and playing style.

I think if you practiced enough on your sound, you could make it sound the same, but it just doesn't sound the same.

And for a song like that, it just sounds better played that way. Downpicking that song is hard as hell though.
